“The voice sounded like you.”
I didn’t sleep at all that night.
Even now, I replay it in my mind—the timing, the warning, the impossible detail that someone had called for help before I even decided to.
Maybe it was a system glitch.
Maybe a crossed signal.
Or maybe—just maybe—it was something else entirely.
Something that knew.
Something that acted.
Something that protected me before I even understood the danger.
All I know is this:
If that first call hadn’t been made…
I might have waited just a little longer.
And that might have been all it took.
